Writing Skills and Exam Preparation for C1-C2 Levels

Stephen John Taylor is a Seminar Writer-Presenter, Teacher-Trainer and Business & Development Consultant for Cambridge Assessment English, Southern Europe. A graduate of Lancaster University (UK), he holds an Honours Degree in English Literature & Linguistics, a PGCE (English language/EFL pathway) and an M.Ed.in Applied Linguistics. In addition to his longstanding professional relationship with the University of Cambridge, his career path has encompassed the British Civil Service, the National Literacy Programme, the UK Department of Education, the University of Patras (KORAIS dictionary) and TESPatras, where he currently holds the post of Senior Translator. His particular interest is in empowering both learners and teachers to achieve their full potential in preparing for English language examinations.

It is a hands-on workshop designed for foreign language professionals in Greece - teachers at public and foreign language schools, private lessons teachers, directors of studies, school owners.

C1 and C2 levels are categorised by the CEFR as being proof of PROFICIENCY: to be precise, Effective Operational Proficiency and Mastery. In terms of writing, this is a substantial leap up from that required at B2. With the standard available preparation time between B2 and C2 becoming increasingly shorter to meet market demands, it is vital that teachers of C1 and C2 classes (and here we include IELTS for students requiring 6.5 and above) are fully aware of the requirements of examination boards at these levels and how to meet them. This workshop will explore these requirements in relation to key exams such as Cambridge C2 Proficiency and IELTS Academic, and provide participants with clear, practical ways in which they can best prepare their students for success in Writing tasks at these demanding levels.
