Marialena Kalyva (MA Clinical Psychology, MSc Child and Family Therapy) was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa where she received her first Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of South Africa. She then attained a second Master’s degree in Child and Family Therapy at the University of La Verne, Southern California. Marialena’s initial specialization was in trauma counseling whilst working for the South African police department assisting victims of violent crime. She continued her work with children suffering from chronic and fatal illnesses specializing in resilience training. Since moving to Greece in 1999, Marialena has worked at the International School of Athens and at the American Community Schools of Athens where she taught IB Psychology and worked extensively in special needs programs. She is a public speaker and trainer delivering many presentations and workshops through-out Greece and Cyprus to educators and parents addressing issues pertinent to the healthy psychological development of children and adolescents. Marialena is a National Certified Psychologist who has been in private practice since 2001. She conducts family, couples and individual psychotherapy to children, adolescents and adults.
